The design of the workspace is a testament to the site's history and the company's ethos. The office is situated in an old airport terminal, providing a unique backdrop of planes taking off and landing at the new airport in the distance. This subtle reminder of the site's past blends seamlessly with the entrances of the two companies housed under one roof, each marked by a tunnel-like architrave formed by stacked panels.
The design team has skillfully used lighting and color to create a lively atmosphere within the industrial setting. Vibrant orange hues contrast with the dim, industrial look of the workspace, while iron plates, rivets, concrete paint, and flooring enhance the old terminal's character. The result is a workspace that is both modern and nostalgic, reflecting the company's forward-thinking approach and respect for the past.
The workspace's layout encourages movement and efficiency. A clear directional track, reminiscent of a runway, leads to a dimensional print of a hole to the universe, creating a sense of forward momentum and high efficiency at work. This design element, coupled with the use of perforated panels to balance openness and privacy, creates an environment that is both productive and comfortable.
ELTO Consultancy's design also includes unique features that serve as functional and emotional connections to the aviation industry. Airplane turbines have been transformed into seating in the waiting area, and a bar top has been designed in the shape of a wing. A large platform in the recreation area doubles as a casual hang-out spot and a stage for media conferences, topped by a huge wing art installation that has become a signature landmark.
The design has been recognized for its innovation and impact, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding creations that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
In conclusion, ELTO Consultancy's design for the GTR and Teleport co-working space is a masterful blend of form and function, reflecting the company's philosophy and the site's history. By transforming an old airport terminal into a dynamic workspace, the design team has created a place where people can work efficiently, socialize freely, and be inspired by their surroundings.
